The History and Future of BeanStalk

BeanStalk Community Theatre took root in 2012, founded by Amy Beane and Andrea McDonough with a simple but powerful vision: to create inclusive theatre experiences for the High Country. Their first production, Jingle Jury, was more than just a holiday play—it “set the stage,” so to speak, for over a decade of vibrant performances, creative collaboration, and community connection.

Since then, BeanStalk has blossomed into a local mainstay, producing three shows each year that reflect the diversity, talent, and heart of our region. Our seasonal rhythm includes:

  • Spring Play – Featuring adult casts, usually a comedic production

  • Summer Musical – A high-energy, all-ages production that brings together children, teens, and adults

  • Fall Play – A family-friendly show

At BeanStalk, we believe theatre should be accessible to everyone. Neurodiversity is a cornerstone of our casting philosophy, and we welcome performers of all backgrounds, abilities, and experience levels. Whether you're stepping on stage for the first time or returning for your tenth season, there's a place for you here.

Most of our productions are staged at the historic Appalachian Theatre of the High Country, a beautifully restored venue in downtown Boone that echoes with the laughter, music, and stories of generations past.
